WHAT WE DO
Hystra is a global consulting firm specialized in inclusive business. We support corporations, social businesses and social investors in designing sustainable and scalable strategies for the Base of the Pyramid.
Across the world, thousands of social entrepreneurs are exploring how to harness market forces for social good. However, most of them fail to achieve scale. Since 2009, we have reviewed the challenges at the Base of the Pyramid in sectors as diverse as energy, safe water, smallholder agriculture, nutrition, sanitation, ICT, marketing and distribution, affordable housing, and public-private coalitions, scanning over 1,500 BoP projects and organizations and analyzing in depth over 150 of the most successful among them.
We leverage this knowledge to support our clients throughout the inclusive business lifecycle: create and implement innovative business models, build more effective marketing approaches, craft public-private partnerships, or design hybrid governance models.
OPEN SOURCE RESEARCH
The inclusive business space is moving rapidly. Since our creation in 2009, we have seen many innovative models emerge, succeed, and sometimes fail. In an effort to understand what works we have conducted a number of sector scans – in energy, water, smallholder farmers, sanitation, nutrition, ICT, housing, marketing and distribution, coalitions – to identify best practices and analyze the obstacles to scale.
These research efforts often involved consortiums of public players, companies and non-profits. As much as possible, we agreed with them to work in open source, sharing our methodologies and insights, in order to build the sector knowledge, and help inclusive businesses improve their sustainability, scalability, and impact on society.
INCLUSIVE BUSINESS STRATEGIES
We support our clients with strategic consulting services throughout the inclusive business lifecycle. We help our clients identify the problems that they could help solve, find the sweet spots where they can make a crucial difference, match their existing skills and assets with the needs of low-income clients, and craft the business plan and organizational space needed for their strategy.
We help our clients in implementing their work plans and improving on their strategies, by providing on-the-ground support or remote follow-ups. This can take the form of yearly to bi-yearly field audits, monthly phone calls, or a mix of both.
We offer two forms of capacity building:
Together with HEC Business School and Ashoka, we are holding an Executive Education Program on inclusive business and value creation that provides a unique and comprehensive package to prepare corporate executives in charge of designing, launching or scaling inclusive business projects. Designed for corporate executives, it also welcomes social entrepreneurs, executives from large NGOs, international aid agencies and impact investors. Its format is based on experiential learning and immersion, cutting-edge academic content, insights from pioneers in the field and peer-to-peer learning, condensed into an intensive 3.5 day session held in English
The next edition will take place at HEC Paris, 16-19 October 2018.
We offer two kind of workshops:
Social innovation workshop
We leverage our database of successful inclusive businesses to help your teams come up with a range of possible innovative strategies solving social issues, that your organization would be uniquely placed to take forward.
Sales and marketing workshop
We leverage our proprietary data on over 40 companies to benchmark your organization on over 50 key indicators (qualitative and quantitative) that can make or break your sales results. Based on this benchmark, we propose a tailored management workshop that exposes your management and sales team to best practices in relevant areas of improvement, allowing your company to create a clear action plan to durably improve your sales results and economics, and ultimately your client satisfaction and impact.
