ACCESS TO ENERGY
On two occasions we have conducted global research on how innovative organizations have managed to bring access to energy to the BoP sustainably, reviewing over 350 projects and analyzing in depth over 20 of them as case studies.
Based on this research, we supported Total from strategy to implementation in setting up the Awango, selling quality solar lights via their unique Pan-African distribution network of gas stations (1.4 million lanterns sold as of early 2016).
We also supported two energy impact funds: one in designing their investment strategy and selecting first targets for investment; and training the other one’s teams on successful energy projects.
We worked with multiple social energy enterprises: helping a solar lantern brand develop a business plan and launch sales in the Philippines, advising the scale up strategy of another solar lantern player, or reviewing and improving the marketing and sales strategy of over a dozen companies selling solar lights, improved cookstoves or biodigesters, via short workshops or year-long assignments.
